The XAUTicker live feed put spot gold at $4,401.65 per troy ounce on 17 August, up $25.47, or 0.58%, from the previous close of $4,376.18. The session range ran from $4,367.85 to $4,413.98, leaving the market clustered around the $4,400 area highlighted by TradingView, FXLeaders, Moneyweb and Invezz. Price action around $4,400

Action Forex framed the move as profit-taking after the rally, while TradingView said XAU/USD was climbing toward $4,400 and asked whether a breakout was next. FXStreet described gold as extending its struggle with $4,400, and Bitcoin World said XAU/USD was stuck near $4,400 while its headline still described bulls as in control. TradingView also said spot gold may retest resistance at $4,420. Against XAUTicker’s session high of $4,413.98, the headlines show a market trading near widely watched round-number levels rather than making a clean move away from them.

Dollar and Fed expectations drive headlines

Several publishers tied the advance to dollar and Federal Reserve expectations. TradingView said gold climbed as Fed-hike bets collapsed, while FXLeaders said Fed hike odds had sunk to 30%. Moneyweb reported that gold rose near $4,400 as weak retail data weighed on the dollar, and Big News Network.com said gold gained on a weaker dollar and reduced Fed rate-hike bets. Invezz framed the next test around what the Fed says next. livemint.com reported that Goldman said markets were too hawkish in betting the Fed would hike rates.

Bullion demand and investor interest

The broader bullion news flow was also firm. Awaz The Voice reported that gold futures rose to Rs 1.55 lakh per 10 grams on spot demand, and VnExpress International said gold prices gained. Moneycontrol.com focused on gold ETFs, reporting that UTI Gold ETF topped its list of the top five gold ETFs by 3-year CAGR returns. The Straits Times ran an investor-focused piece on gold, silver, platinum and palladium for Singapore readers. investingLive, by contrast, said China’s Securities Daily warned against chasing gold at current highs.

Risk backdrop stays in view

Risk and event headlines remained part of the gold narrative. TradingKey said spot gold rose above $4,400 as Fed and Middle East risks swayed prices. finance.biggo.com reported that Iran barred the U.S. military from the Strait of Hormuz and said oil and gold rallied in early trading. Crypto Briefing said gold was steady as traders assessed U.S. economic data and inflation pressures. finance.biggo.com also said markets were in wait-and-see mode as FOMC minutes and a Treasury auction loomed, while The Times of India said Fed minutes and the Middle East were in focus for bullion.

What to watch
