Fed hike sets the backdrop

The day’s main macro story remained the Federal Reserve. Business Record reported that the Fed increased interest rates by 0.25 points, while 41NBC News and centraljersey.com described it as the first rate increase since 2023. 조선일보 reported that the Fed raised rates to 3.75–4.00%, and Mexico Business News said the move narrowed the spread with Banxico’s 6.50% rate. Axios framed the issue around why the Fed hiked this week, while FXStreet cited UOB as seeing two more hikes as inflation stays too high.

Metals rebound into the close

Several gold-focused headlines described a rebound after the Fed move. KITCO reported that gold and silver rose as yields eased after Warsh’s Fed hike, and later said gold rose as traders reassessed positions after the rate decision while the oil rally eased. FXEmpire said the rally reclaimed the 50-day EMA as yields eased, while tradersunion.com reported that XAU rallied as US Treasury yields slipped below 5%. Anadolu Ajansı also reported that gold and silver rebounded as an easing oil rally tempered inflation concerns.

ETF demand stays in focus

ETF flows were another theme in the headlines. Pluang reported that North American gold ETF buying jumped from $71 million to $7.7 billion in August amid rising real yields. Yahoo Finance used the same figures and asked whether GLDM can hold up, while Crypto Briefing described North American gold ETF buying as surging to $8 billion in August as investors fled to safety. Business Insider Africa reported that Zambia is targeting $1 billion from five new listings as its first gold ETF nears launch.

Forecast headlines turn technical

Technical and forecast headlines stayed cautious about follow-through. FOREX.com said an XAU/USD breakout needs confirmation. tradingnews.com reported that XAU/USD held a $4,230 floor after the Fed hike and put a $4,430 target in focus. FXStreet said gold recovered after a Fed-led sell-off, but that a hawkish outlook capped gains. USAGOLD reported that physical gold rebounded to $4,311 as buyers absorbed the Fed’s first hike since 2023, with silver up 2.9%. Moneycontrol.com said gold rebounded sharply above $4,366 after the Fed shock.

What to watch

  • Whether Fed-related yield moves remain central to gold headlines.
  • Whether FOREX.com’s breakout-confirmation theme carries into the next session.
  • Whether ETF-flow headlines keep drawing attention after reported August buying.
  • Whether silver continues to outpace gold in the live XAUTicker data.
