Gold ended the session higher at $4,192.05 a troy ounce, up $58.75, or 1.42%, after moving between $4,132.55 and $4,207.35. The move resolved a day in which several publishers reported bullion pressing back toward or above $4,200 during US hours. Kitco said gold added more than 1% as easing oil prices and a softer dollar helped, while FXStreet said XAU/USD rallied to $4,200 as US yields retreated. Silver also stayed firm, rising 2.73% to $60.79, leaving the gold/silver ratio at 69.0.

Continued from the morning edition of 9 October 2026. Prices below are frozen at publication — the live gold price has the current figure, and this guide covers what tends to move it.

Dollar, yields and oil frame the move

The day’s main macro explanation came from headlines tying bullion’s rebound to softer cross-market conditions. Kitco reported that gold added more than 1% on easing oil prices and a softer dollar, and earlier said gold and silver rebounded as the dollar, yields and oil eased. FXStreet said XAU/USD rallied to $4,200 as US yields retreated, while TradingView said weaker dollar and falling US yields supported gold and silver futures. Investing.com UK also framed the move as a gold rally while the dollar wobbled.

Rate bets and inflation stay in focus

Rate expectations remained part of the gold narrative. Mitrade said XAU approached $4,200 as October rate hike bets dimmed, and Business Standard said gold may draw support from a decline in October Fed rate hike bets, citing Mirae Asset. Kitco reported that gold traded near its high after preliminary Consumer Sentiment fell to 46.3 and inflation expectations rose. FXStreet carried analyst views before US CPI, saying two saw a monetary shift underway while one said the rally was still capped.

Silver breaks $60 as precious metals rally

Silver’s rally was prominent across the session. The feed put spot silver at $60.79, up 2.73%, and USAGOLD said silver powered 2% above $60 as a strong 30-year auction cooled yields, while physical gold rebounded to $4,183. Investing.com reported that gold futures topped $4,200 as silver broke $60. RTV English said gold and silver rallied on a weak dollar and global cues. Shanghai Metals Market reported a precious-metals-sector surge and marginal improvement in spot silver trading.

ETF demand appears in the background

ETF flows were another repeated theme, though the headlines were broad rather than session-specific. Seeking Alpha flagged gold ETF flows for September 2026, while Azernews.az reported that global gold ETF inflows reached a record $31 billion. Outlook Money said equity market weakness was potentially driving investors toward gold ETFs, citing WGC. Telangana Today reported that gold ETF assets in India surged 164% to Rs 1.91 lakh crore, and Traders Union said gold ETF activity surged while the gold price remained below $4,200.

What to watch

  • Whether spot gold can hold near the $4,200 area after the late-session rise.
  • Further moves in the dollar, US yields and oil, all cited by publishers as drivers.
  • US CPI coverage after FXStreet flagged analysts’ views before the release.
  • Whether silver remains above $60 after outpacing gold on the session.
