Pullback from the three-month high

The evening move turned earlier strength into a retreat from the top of the range. BusinessToday Malaysia said gold hit a three-month high as the rally continued, but FXStreet reported that gold lost ground after nearing the $4,700 mark. KITCO described gold as slipping from a three-month high and later said profit-taking followed the rally, while TradingNEWS said XAU/USD rejected a three-month high. KITCO also said the metal stayed under pressure as U.S. new home sales fell 10.5% in July.

Fed and inflation stay in focus

Rate headlines were the clearest pressure point. Reuters reported that Boston Fed's Collins said U.S. rates need to rise soon absent evidence of an ongoing drop in inflation. Yahoo! Finance Canada said Collins warned the FOMC may have to raise rates if inflation persists, while Traders Union and المتداول العربي carried similar headlines about the Federal Reserve signaling possible rate rises as inflation stays high. FXStreet said U.S. PCE was in focus as gold lost ground, and Bitcoin World framed PCE inflation and Fed signals as a key test for the rally.

Safe-haven and dollar themes remain

Several headlines still pointed to demand supports rather than a simple rates story. FXStreet, citing Commerzbank in its headline, said tariff conflict was fueling a safe-haven bid. The Guardian said gold hit a three-month high amid fears over Iran war and the Trump economy, and KITCO's AM report said Iran risk framed trade. Pluang said gold and Bitcoin rallied amid dollar weakness while questioning the longer-term debasement-trade narrative. Ad-hoc-news.de linked the rally to record central-bank hoarding and a softer dollar, while Global Times said China was building a global gold network to boost the yuan's role.

Flows and silver add context

Flows and silver added cross-market context. TradingView reported that a gold ETF led inflows as investors pulled billions from mega-cap ETFs in one day, and Traders Union said a record single-day gold ETF inflow supported the gold price near a support level. USAGOLD said physical gold eased from a three-month high as silver slipped ahead of PCE; by the supplied price data, spot silver ended at $68.63, down 0.40%, with the gold/silver ratio at 67.6. TradingView also reported a local-market move in which gold rose while silver declined.

What to watch

  • U.S. PCE headlines cited by FXStreet, USAGOLD and Bitcoin World.
  • Further Fed-rate language after Reuters and Yahoo! Finance Canada reported Collins's comments.
  • Whether ETF-flow headlines from TradingView and Traders Union remain supportive.
