Gold falls to $4,165 as dollar weighs
Gold fell to $4,165.37, down 0.73%, as headlines cited dollar strength, elevated yields and caution before inflation and Fed events.
Spot gold finished the session at $4,165.37 per troy ounce, down $30.45, or 0.73%, after trading between $4,155.76 and $4,175.18. That left it below the previous close of $4,195.81. The evening headlines framed the move around a firmer dollar and higher rates: Depor said dollar strength weighed on bullion, FOREX.com said dollar strength kept XAU under pressure, and Kitco said gold struggled as the U.S. dollar neared an 18-month high and bond yields remained elevated.

Dollar and yields set the tone

Depor also linked the fall in spot gold to dollar strength, while FOREX.com said dollar strength was keeping XAU under pressure. Fed and inflation caution stayed in view
The macro headlines kept attention on U.S. policy signals rather than on a single gold-specific catalyst. Chase Bank asked whether Fed officials were changing their tone ahead of October’s FOMC meeting. Investopedia pointed readers to Wednesday’s inflation report, and USAGOLD said physical gold eased to $4,177 as surging ETF inflows met pre-CPI caution while silver held $60. Mortgage Professional America reported that the MBA expects two more Federal Reserve hikes, in December and Q1 2027. Kitco, citing Bank of America in its headline, said gold would need a dovish Fed or renewed debasement fears to reverse its downtrend.

Demand headlines were mixed
ETF demand remained a major theme even as the price weakened. Kitco said gold ETF demand defied rising bond yields as investors poured $31 billion into a record third quarter, citing the WGC in the headline. Several Indian outlets reported a September jump in gold ETF inflows: India Tribune - Chicago, ET Now and Lokmat Times put inflows at Rs 4,451 crore, while Livemint said they rose 71% despite falling gold prices. Moneycontrol.com said nine-month collections surpassed full-year 2025, and Business Standard said September inflows hit a seven-month high despite a 5% fall in bullion.

Central-bank and level headlines diverged
Central-bank reserve headlines did not point in one direction. BigGo Finance said Kazakhstan’s central bank plans to cut gold reserves to 75% by year-end while shifting toward dollar assets. The Times Of Central Asia said Uzbekistan’s gold reserves rose to 446 tons despite a price drop. Watcher Guru said China made its biggest gold-reserve buy in three years, and TradingView carried a ZAWYA headline saying Jordan’s central bank gold reserves hit a record $10.7 billion. On price levels, Traders Union said $4,160 support was in focus, while BigGo Finance described gold as locked in a tug-of-war at $4,200.
