Before GST and making charges · from the spot quote of
India prices gold per 10 grams in rupees, and the rate a jeweller quotes starts from the international spot price — $4,194.61 an ounce right now. What you will actually pay
- Making charges. Jewellers charge for fabrication, either per gram or as a percentage of the metal value. On intricate pieces this can add a large share of the price; on coins and bars it is small.
- GST. 3% on the metal value plus making charges.
- Selling back. Dealers buy below the rate they sell at, and jewellery is usually bought back at its metal value, less any deduction for purity testing.

Frequently asked
What is the 24 carat gold rate in India today?
₹1,50,767 per 10 grams for 24k gold, before GST and making charges. That is the international spot price converted to rupees, with import duty and the usual local premium added.
What is the 22 carat gold rate per 10 grams?
₹1,38,203 per 10 grams for 22k gold, which is 91.67% pure. Jewellers add making charges on top, and GST applies to the total.
Does the gold rate include GST?
No. GST of 3% is charged on top, on the metal value plus any making charges, at the point of purchase.
Why is gold more expensive in India than the international price?
Because India imports almost all of its gold, and the international price is a wholesale figure in dollars. The landed rate adds the rupee exchange rate, customs duty on the import, and a small market premium, before GST and a jeweller’s making charges.
Why do gold rates differ between Indian cities?
Transport, insurance, local demand and the margins of each city’s bullion trade put a small premium on top of the national landed rate. On this page those city premiums are modelled by XAUTicker rather than read from each city’s market, and the table says so.
