Early bid fades into the close

Kitco reported earlier that gold rose on a weaker dollar and lower oil ahead of US inflation data, while its AM Report said gold was firmer as the dollar, yields and oil retreated before CPI. FXStreet also tied an XAU/USD retracement of losses to easier US yields and oil, and Profit by Pakistan Today said gold ticked up as oil eased. That tone did not last into the evening price read: spot gold finished at $4,152.89, down $33.39 on the session, with the day’s low at $4,150.55.

Fed-rate headlines stay central

TradingNEWS reported that Fed funds futures priced an 88% chance of a December hike and called that the main lid on gold’s rebound. Mortgage Professional America said Fed’s Hammack backed a rate-hike path as inflation stayed stubborn, while SchiffGold.com framed a Fed policy reversal around stickier inflation. Breitbart News reported Fed Governor Waller saying higher bond yields reflected stronger growth, not inflation, and Reuters reported Waller saying US inflation expectations were well anchored. Reuters also cited Semafor saying Goolsbee saw AI-induced inflation “jumping out of its lane,” and Traders Union said the Federal Reserve flagged AI-driven inflation spillovers as rate risks persisted.

Dollar and data frame the watch

Khaleej Times said the gold outlook hinged on US rates, dollar strength and inflation data. Kitco reported that gold was holding steady as US existing home sales rose 1.5%, while TradingKey previewed September CPI by asking how US stocks, the dollar and gold would react if inflation heated up. Business Standard said gold and silver traded lower on MCX as a firm dollar weighed on bullion. Together, those headlines kept the evening focus on rates, the dollar and inflation rather than on a single physical-market driver.

ETFs and miners stay in view

Kalkine India reported that gold ETF inflows surged 71% in September as prices cooled, and Upstox said gold ETFs attracted ₹4,451 crore in September amid market volatility. In equities, kalkine.ca said Barrick stock paused as gold prices cooled after a strong TSX metals rally, while the same publisher said Lundin Gold rallied 10.51% and Hudbay investors were watching Snow Lake gold reserves and a Copper World decision. Yahoo Finance reported SSR Mining outlined a 20-year Marigold plan with gold reserves rising 43% to 4.6 million ounces.

What to watch

  • US inflation data cited by Kitco, Khaleej Times and TradingKey.
