Silver was steadier at $57.71 an ounce, down 0.10%, leaving the gold/silver ratio at 71.4. Kitco, AOL.com, USAGOLD and Economies.com all tied gold’s weakness to inflation concerns, higher oil prices, yields and revived expectations for Federal Reserve tightening.

US session ends near the low

Gold’s evening level put the metal close to the session low after a steady loss across the day. Kitco said gold eased as higher oil prices stoked inflation concerns, while AOL.com reported that gold eased as oil-driven inflation worries weighed. USAGOLD put physical gold at $4,124 and linked the decline to oil-driven yields and revived Fed hike bets, while also saying silver firmed. Earlier in the day, Kitco said gold was weaker and silver was mixed as weak housing data offset rising oil prices, and later reported spot gold near a low after US housing starts and building permits fell in September.

Fed expectations dominate the backdrop

Rate expectations remained the main macro theme in the headlines. Reuters reported that nearly all economists expect the Federal Reserve to skip October but raise rates again in December. Yahoo Finance Singapore carried the same Reuters poll framing, and Traders Union also said the Federal Reserve is seen holding rates in October before hiking in December. Finance Monthly said the Fed is expected to hold rates in October before a December increase. The Motley Fool said Fed minutes showed another rate hike is likely this year, while AOL.com said the Federal Reserve had warned that more rate hikes are likely coming.

Forecasts split between yield pressure and demand

Forecast headlines remained divided. TradingNEWS described XAU/USD at $4,134, record 4,256-tonne ETF holdings, 5.10% yields and a $4,360 target. FXEmpire said high Treasury yields put $4,000 support in focus. Kitco said CIBC cut gold price forecasts but still saw a recovery to $5,200 in 2027 as central-bank demand offsets Fed headwinds. Traders Union asked whether stronger physical demand could help XAU regain momentum. These are publisher-reported forecasts and framings from headlines only, not a price call from this digest.

Reserves and demand stay in view

Official and regional gold themes stayed active. The Moscow Times reported that Russia’s gold reserves fell to their lowest since 2019 as the budget deficit widened. Businessday NG said Ghana’s gold reserve value jumped 476% in three years and leads Africa. TradingView reported that Azerbaijan’s sovereign oil fund said its gold reserves were steady at 178.1 tons. On demand, the World Gold Council said India’s seasonal gold demand showed early strength, while Sada Elbalad English said the World Gold Council saw India gold demand gaining ahead of the festival season. Kalkine India said central-bank gold buying is not a direct forecast of jewellery demand.

What to watch

  • Reuters polling on an October Fed hold and possible December increase.
  • Whether oil-driven inflation concerns keep pressure on yields, as Kitco and AOL.com reported.
  • India demand headlines from the World Gold Council as the festival season develops.
  • Reserve updates after reports on Russia, Ghana and Azerbaijan.
