Silver holds above $59 on Williams’ remarks — but the $60.21 average still caps it

Silver steadied around $59.20 after two down days as the Fed’s Williams signalled no hikes in 2027, but FXStreet says it stays bearish below its moving averages while oil keeps inflation risk alive.

After two days of losses, silver found its feet in Asian trading on Wednesday. It traded around $59.20 an ounce, FXStreet reports, supported by comments from New York Fed president John Williams.

Williams: one more hike, then stop

Williams sees one more rate hike as appropriate this year but does not foresee additional rate increases in 2027, according to FXStreet. That is not a dovish message about the next meeting — FedWatch still shows about 88% odds of a hike by December, and about 77% odds of no change in October. What it changes is the longer path: a cap on how far rates go. For silver, which pays no interest and trades partly as a monetary metal, a lower peak in rates is supportive. CPI and the oil problem

The consensus for today’s CPI is 3.6% on the year, up from 3.4%, with core at 2.5% from 2.4%. Behind that rise sits energy, and TD Securities, quoted by FXStreet, sees energy strength as “hard to shake as tanker attacks escalate.” For silver this is a double-edged risk: higher energy prices push inflation and rate expectations up, and they also raise costs for the industries that use silver.

FXStreet also notes the International Monetary Fund’s latest warnings: on a possible slowdown in the AI boom, on debt, and on a prolonged conflict in the Middle East. The first matters directly for silver, since AI data centres have become one of the demand stories behind it — see Silver’s new floor.

The chart: below both averages

IndicatorLevel
9-day EMA (first resistance)≈$60.21
50-day EMA (next resistance)≈$62.99
14-day RSI38.87

As reported by FXStreet from the daily chart, 14 October 2026.

FXStreet describes silver as technically bearish while it trades below both its 9- and 50-day exponential moving averages. An RSI under 40 shows weak momentum but not an oversold market. Reclaiming the 9-day average near $60.21 would be the first sign of a turn; failing to do so leaves the downtrend in place. Those are FXStreet’s readings, not our forecast.
